Joel Wesley

Joel is the Lessons Coordinator at the Cobourg location! He has been working for Long and McQuade for 6 years now! He started his career with L&M at the Pickering location, then moved to the Belleville location, before settling down here at the Cobourg location! Joel is a graduate of the Trebas Institute, receiving a Diploma in Audio Engineering, Music Production & DJ Arts.

Clayton Yates (Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele, Dobro)

Clayton Yates has worked as a professional musician for 15+ years. He was born into a musical family, and started playing and performing at a very young age. By the time Clayton was in his twenties, he was playing alongside international touring acts such as Washboard Hank, Petunia, members of Prairie Oyster, and Rockabilly Hall Of Famer Ronnie Hayward. Clayton currently plays regularly with his jazz band The Hot Club De Port Hope, hillbilly boogie outfit The Quickshifters, as well as various other oddball hillbilly and rock and roll acts.

Clayton's rate is $23/ per half hour.

Dave Allen - Drum Set, Guitar music lessons in Cobourg

Dave Allen (Drum Set, Guitar)

Dave has been teaching drums and guitar since 2007. Lessons focus on the musical interests and goals of the students. All styles are taught, though his playing leans toward funk and blues-rock. He often plays guitar along with drum students and vice versa, playing both structured songs and loose improvisations. David began playing and taking formal lessons at age 12. If students are interested in learning about the recording process, he also has a background in audio engineering and graduated from the Recording Arts Program of Canada.

Hailiah Knight - Piano, Voice, Songwriting music lessons in Cobourg

Hailiah Knight (Piano, Voice, Songwriting)

Hailiah, a Cobourg local, grew up immersed in the waters of music. She began her musical training at St Peter's church as an active member in their choir & hand bell choir, then went on to join La Jeunesse choirs at the age of 11, competing with them in Spain in 2007. Hailiah was part of their full girl's & SATB choir, as well as helping out with the children's choir and les petites as their apprentice conductor. Hailiah went on to attend Rosedale Heights school of the arts for her final years of high school as a vocal major. She then went on to St Lawrence college to study jazz piano under Cameron Schafer. Hailiah completed her grade 8 piano and grade two theory under the instruction of Cathy Burnham during high school previous to her college training. While in college she extended her knowledge of piano from its RCM roots & learned more about accompaniment and piano voicing, released her first EP and started playing with a backing band. She has opened for various artists such as Walk Off The Earth, Lights, The Strumbellas, Tyler Shaw, and The Gentlemen Husbands. With her performance experience & classical background, Hailiah is excited to be joining the Long & McQuade Cobourg team as a teacher.

Katt Baxter - Piano, Voice music lessons in Cobourg

Katt Baxter (Piano, Voice)

Katt has been teaching piano and voice since 2010 to students of a wide range of age and ability. She is classically trained with a love of Worship and Broadway. Katt has a Bachelor of Arts with a specialty in Music from Laurentian University. She has earned her Grade 8 Royal Convervatory of Music in both piano and voice. Katt has taught music in a school setting since 2011 and has sung in numerous choirs such as; La Jeunesse Choirs, Sudbury Chamber Singers, and McGreggor Community Choir, as well as directing the Austin Christian Academy Choir. Her teaching methods and programs vary depending on the individual needs of each student.

Lorne K. Hemmerling - Guitar, Bass, Theory music lessons in Cobourg

Lorne K. Hemmerling (Guitar, Bass, Theory)

Lorne has been teaching guitar and bass professionally since 1992. Over the years, he has taught countless students (beginners to advanced) how to play or improve their chops. Lorne held teaching positions at Studios in Whitby and Oshawa before opening his own retail/music education facility in Port Hope. Past students include Luke Hoskin, Tim Millar, and Rody Walker of PROTEST THE HERO, Kyle Renton of Port Hope based band TRAIN WRECK and Ian Fraser of Cobourg based bands The TUNE O MATICS and rock duo CLEOPATRICK. Lorne is also a composer/producer and has worked on some high quality original recordings with The Elizabeth Storms Duo, and more currently Henderson & Hemmerling. Lorne is also the author of a beginner to intermediate blues method. He is the founding member of the classic rock and blues cover band, JACKHAMMER.

Mark Sepic - Banjo, Guitar, Hand Drums, Percussion, Ukulele, Theory music lessons in Cobourg

Mark Sepic (Banjo, Guitar, Hand Drums, Percussion, Ukulele, Theory)

Mark Sepic has been teaching and performing in the GTA since 1980. A devout guitarist and composer, he is a noted accompanist and collaborator in settings ranging from modern dance and theatre to numerous pop and jazz recordings and broadcasts. His ensembles appear regularly on nightclub and festival stages, and have been featured in thirteen consecutive Toronto Jazz Festivals as well as abroad to Germany, Cuba and Singapore. As an arts educator, Mark has distilled his rich and diverse experience into an integrated arts program which has introduced thousands of Ontario students and teachers to the irresistible joys of music.
A passionate environmentalist, Mark's "Junkestra" program, a hands-on wonderland of recycling, integrates sports, music, and art, celebrating the musical potential of everyday things. In schools, galleries and festivals throughout Ontario Mark has helped Canadians recycle over 250,000 items; giving tin cans, toilet paper rolls and plastic jars a musical afterlife as drums, kazoos and maracas. Larger items – pots, pans, plumbing and yes, even the kitchen sink, become sound sculptures, 11 of which dot the Ontario landscape, from Toronto and Hamilton to Barry's Bay and Moose Factory.
Mark’s newest creation, a hockey stick xylophone, has been featured on CBC Radio's DNTO, as “Canada’s Green Slap Shot to Save the World”.

Nicola Joseph - Piano, Ukulele music lessons in Cobourg

Nicola Joseph (Piano, Ukulele)

Nicola is a professional teacher who would love to share her passion of music with her students.

She has trained in piano pedagogy with the Royal Conservatory of Music and has trained with the Nordoff Robins Music Therapy Centre in the UK. Nicola also studied music at McGill University and has sung in various choirs.   She has Grade 8 honours piano, and completed her Level 1 Orff Certificate as well as attended many teacher seminars at the RCM.  For ukulele, Nicola has completed her Level 1 Ukulele Teacher's certificate with James Hill.  She is experienced working with children and adults as a teacher and counsellor.  Nicola has taught voice and speech overseas and in Toronto. Nicola also enjoys playing the saxophone, clarinet and guitar. 

Nicola's rate is $22/ per half hour.

Roy Feuerherdt - Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Brass music lessons in Cobourg

Roy Feuerherdt (Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Brass)

Roy graduated in 1983 from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Music, Performance, and a Music Education degree. He has 15 years teaching experience in the public school system and has been teaching private brass instruction at the Toronto Waldorf School for 30+ years. Roy has maintained a busy schedule working as a classical trumpeter in the Greater Toronto Area since 1983. He currently plays in the Northumberland Orchestra and Choir and frequently travels across southern Ontario for various playing engagements.

Saskia Tomkins - Violin, Viola, Cello, Theory, music lessons in Cobourg

Saskia Tomkins (Violin, Viola, Cello, Theory,)

Saskia learned her craft through busking as a teenager and playing with Country bands, Irish bands, and Orchestras before attending University and completing a degree in Jazz, where she began playing viola; and started teaching part time. Saskia spent the next years touring with bands and theatre companies, working as a session musician recording on albums for singer-songwriters, and part time teaching in schools and colleges. Saskia has a broad history of professional performance including; 6 months with the English Shakespeare Company, played Uriah Heep's 30th anniversary concert and DVD, played mandolin for The Royal Albert Hall in Mahler's 7th symphony, and much more. Saskia has been working as the bowed strings musician at 4th Line Theatre, and is principle Viola in the Northumberland Orchestra (NOC). She currently has 3 regular bands: A Celtic trio “Cairdeas”, the instrumental jazz/roots duo “2ish”, and “Clan Hannigan” with her family.

Troy Howard - Drum Set, Percussion, Hand Drums music lessons in Cobourg

Troy Howard (Drum Set, Percussion, Hand Drums)

Troy is a born and raised Cobourgian who got his first drum set at fifteen years old. After making a stop at Mohawk College for three years (studying music of course), he has returned to share what he learned.Troy has been performing on acoustic/electric drums and hand percussion in various ensembles in Northumberland County ranging from rock, jazz, swing, country, and folk since 1996.
