Private Lessons

Welcome to Dartmouth's largest music lesson centre located at 124 Main street, Dartmouth. We offer 15 spacious studios in house and our very own recital room. Our studios are equipped with state of the art keyboards and acoustic upright pianos as well as a Yamaha Concert Grand. We offer lessons in violin, viola, cello, all woodwind and brass, all styles piano, guitar (electric and acoustic), banjo, ukulele, bodhran, percussion and drumset.

Amy Ewer - Piano music lessons in Dartmouth

Amy Ewer (Piano)

Amy Ewer has a Bachelors of Music from Dalhousie University with a major in piano. She has played Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Prokofiev, among others in recitals at Dalhousie and other venues. Amy has been teaching music since 2009 and has years of experience working with children. Her rate for a half hour private lesson is $24

Andrew Murray - Guitar, Uke music lessons in Dartmouth

Andrew Murray (Guitar, Uke)

Andrew is a guitarist and songwriter originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He holds a degree in music from the University of Prince Edward Island, and has over 10 years of teaching experience in Charlottetown, Halifax, and Toronto. He performs as a pit musician at both Neptune Theatre and the Confederation Centre of the Arts for the Charlottetown Festival, and is also a member of award winning and critically acclaimed pop group Sorrey.Andrew is $24 per half hour lesson.

Anthony Riscessco - Violin, Fiddle music lessons in Dartmouth

Anthony Riscessco (Violin, Fiddle)

Anthony is a versatile violin player and teacher who has toured with award-winning singer-songwriter Lennie Gallant and with roots-rock band Pogey. As a member of the neo-traditional trio Papilio, Anthony garnered ECMA and Nova Scotia Music Awards nominations. He is also a member of the popular Halifax band The Gig Dogs and has played with Symphony Nova Scotia, Anne Murray, and Peggy Seeger. As a music student at Dalhousie University, Anthony studied classical violin under Phillippe Djokic. He has won fiddle competitions throughout Canada, including the Maritime Fiddle Championship. In 1990 Anthony came third in the Canadian Open in Ontario, and he was chosen to represent Nova Scotia at the Grand Masters Competition in Ottawa for six consecutive years. He has been an adjudicator at the Kiwanis Festival and has been teaching since 1989. Anthony's rate for a 30-minute private lesson is $24.

Augusto Pedro Enriquez - Guitar music lessons in Dartmouth

Augusto Pedro Enriquez (Guitar)

Augusto Enríquez began his classical guitar studies at the age of 11. At 12, he was admitted into the third level at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory in Havana where he studied for a year. At 13, Augusto began his studies with renowned teacher and guitarist, Yalit González at the Cuban National School of Music (2006-2009) and was named the “Best Guitar Student” for all three years, graduating at 17. He was then selected to fulfill his social service as a teacher of classical guitar at the National School of Music for two years.

After graduation in 2009, Augusto studied for one year with Maestro Leo Brouwer who recommended that he continue his studies at the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music with Maestro Miguel Trápaga. Augusto attended the Madrid Conservatory for two years (2016-2018). Representing the Conservatory, he gave recitals at inter-university gatherings. In 2016, he was selected to play the Concierto de Aranjuez with the Symphonic Orchestra of Chamartin in Madrid. While a student at the Conservatory, Augusto also taught guitar at beginners to advanced levels at the La Salle Academy in Madrid.

In the summer of 2018, Augusto was invited by Jeff Goodspeed of the Los Primos Project to come to Nova Scotia to offer classical and popular concerts. Like many people, he fell in love with the province and the people and decided he would continue his studies in Halifax. His ultimate goal is to continue on to a Master’s degree in Classical and Popular Guitar with professors Douglas Reach and Scott Macmillan. His rate is $25 per half hour.

Bethany Ingraham (Voice) A Halifax-native, Bethany has recently returned from Montreal after completing a Masters degree
in vocal performance at l’Université de Montréal. Bethany has performed in a variety of venues across Canada, singing both classical and non-classical repertoire. She teaches an array of genres, from pop and Broadway all the way to opera. Passionate about the voice, Bethany
believes that a solid foundation and healthy vocal technique can enable students to sing any genre and she encourages her students to reach their full potential. She is $25 per half hour lesson.

Brad has a music degree from Dalhousie University and has been playing in local and national bands for the last 17 years. He has appeared on stage with a number of acts such as Nathan Wiley, Blue Rodeo, Sam Roberts, Dutch Mason, Matt Mays, and Jill Barber, received a Juno during his tenure with “Johnny Favourite” and currently he plays regularly with “The Mellotones”, “The Metric System”, “Joe Murphy”, “The Hopping Penguins”, and hosts a long standing weekly blues jam at Bearly’s. He’s been teaching for the last 16 years and is a regular coach at Summer Rock. His rate for a half-hour private lesson is $24.

David McLean - Guitar, Drums, Songwriting and Theory music lessons in Dartmouth

David McLean (Guitar, Drums, Songwriting and Theory)

David Mclean (Guitar, Drums, Songwriting & Theory) graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2015 and has been recording and performing all over North America. Learning from some of the top musicians in their fields, David has had the opportunity to work with various world-class artists while studying at Berklee such as Slash, Mark Tremonti and Jeff Williams. David has also worked as a session musician on television shows such as Beyblades Burst! as well as video games such as Renaine. David is currently playing around the Maritimes with Joe Muprhy, Emily Stuart and many other local artists. His rate for a half-hour private lesson is $24.

Dorian Baker-ONLINE LESSONS AVAILABLE (Clarinet and Saxophone)

Dorian completed his Undergraduate Degree in Music from Mount Allison University, while simultaneously studying Clarinet Performance at The Boston Conservatory. During his undergrad, Dorian held principal positions in the Mount Allison University Chamber Orchestra, the Boston Conservatory Orchestra and the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble. After completing his undergrad, Dorian moved to Toronto where he completed a Masters Degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Toronto. Dorian maintained a position as principal clarinet with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and was also an active chamber musician, performing all of the Brahms, Mozart, and Beethoven masterworks for clarinet. Dorian has taken masterclasses in North America and throughout Europe with world-renowned artists such as Anthony McGill of the New York Philharmonic, and Walter Seyfarth of the Berlin Philharmonic. Dorian has also worked as a recording artist and has recorded for Eight Note Publications and for the Screen Composers Guild of Canada. Dorian is $25 per half hour.

Doug has a Bachelor of Arts in Music from St. Francis Xavier University. He has been playing in various groups in Halifax for the last six years, has toured the continent with Aide de Camp, and plays in the ECMA nominated band Doctor Dfunkt and award-winning David Myles. Jeffery has a Bachelors of Arts with a major in music [saxophone] from Dalhousie , University. He played with the back up band to the Platters, Dan Aykroyd and the Blues Brothers, and others. John is a graduate of the NSCC Music Arts program with extensive experience playing and performing in a wide variety of genres. From the age of 12 he was drumming in bands in the local all-ages alternative music scene, and simultaneously became involved in the Los Primos Program, performing in youth latin jazz combos around Halifax. Since graduating he has been splitting his time between teaching, touring, recording, and performing with diverse acts such as Loveland, Harley Alexander, New Love Underground, and many more. John continues to immerse himself in new concepts, styles, and musical environments. His rate is $24.00 for a private half hour lesson.

John has a Bachelors in Music in Voice from Mount Allison University and grade 8 Royal Conservatory of Music piano. John originally entered university on trombone but switched to voice after two years. He has sung both solo and chorally with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the Elora Festival Singers, Nathaniel Dett Chorale, Mississauga Choral Society, and the Toronto Jewish Folk Choir among others, and he took on the lead role of Pierre Elliott Trudeau in Vocalypse Productions’ presentation of G. E. Clarke and D.D. Jackson’s opera Trudeau: Long March/Shining Path. John has produced a CD of his own pop/adult compositions called ‘A Labour of Love’. Kevin teaches guitar, ukulele, beginner bass, and theory. He has been teaching since 2014, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in classical guitar performance, as well as an audio engineering certificate. Currently, he is working on his Master of Arts degree in musicology, studying at Dalhousie University. Originally a blues and rock guitarist, Kevin covers many styles of playing. From classical fingerstyle, to metal, jazz, and singer/songwriter, he is open to teaching students of all ages and skill levels. His latest musical project is a forthcoming prog-rock album with the band Grizzly Bones, with Kevin on lead guitar and vocals. With a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Performance from Dalhousie University under his belt, Matt Gallant has been involved in the music industry for 25 years. He has worked with professional artists including Amelia Curran, Erin Costelo, Ben Caplan, Dave Sampson, Adam Baldwin, Roxy and the Underground Soul Sound, Willie Stratton and has toured internationally with The Brood.
Whether engaging in community and professional theatre projects, workshops or working with bands, Matthew brings a vast musical experience, eagerness and passion. Matthew is not shy to crowds - he has facilitated many workshops to large groups and has played over 3,000 shows.
Matthew plays with people across cultures, most notably the Open Borders International MusicGroup that assembles 20+ musicians from different cultures to create extremely unique and vibrant shows. A founding member of Halifax funk and soul legends The Mellotones, Mike has 20 plus years of live and recording experience in the music industry. He’s performed and/or
recorded with a diverse list of maritime artists: Garrett Mason, Dutch Mason, Matt Mays, David Myles, Jill Barber, Erin Costello, The Mellotones, Matt Andersen, Nathan Wiley.
He can be heard most recently on Matt Andersen’s “Halfway Home By Morning” album, which was recorded in Nashville and toured across the country in 2019. He also played on Matt Mays’ Juno award winning album “Coyote” and Garrett Masons’ Juno
nominated album “Love and Sound”. Mike studied bass at the now defunct Canadian

Trevor is a multi-instrumentalist and composer, he holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from St. FX University with a Major in Jazz Studies. Playing and studying music from the age of five, Trevor is no stranger to the local music and education scene and is a first call sideman performing and recording on saxophone, flute, piano and organ. He is a member of the Back Alley Big Band, The Chronos Band and Scott and The Rocks. Trevor has opened for such musical greats as Charles Bradley, John Scofield and Sharon Jones and the dap-kings at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival. Yousef Mousavi - Guitar music lessons in Dartmouth

Yousef Mousavi (Guitar)

Yousef Mousavi is a songwriter and composer who graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2017. Originally educated on the piano, Yousef picked up the guitar at the age of eleven and has since been performing the guitar in the Halifax area solo and with multiple bands and groups. In 2010, he was awarded King’s View Academy’s Excellence in Fine Arts Award. While at Berklee, he studied under jazz/rock/blues guitarists Tom Miller, Tomo Fujita, and Jack Pezanelli. He also studied video game composition with Duncan Watts, composer of Bioshock: Infinite and League of Legends. Yousef gives yearly lectures in Toronto on the music of Japanese Animation.Lessons are $24 per half hour.

Yulia graduated with Honours from the Zaporozshky State Music College in the Ukraine and worked as a piano teacher and children’s choir director while taking courses at the Harkov Institute for Music and Arts there. In 2000 she taught piano for the New Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and in 2002 and 2003 was named teacher of the year. Yuliya specializes in preparing students for all levels of RCM exams, Kiwanis festivals, and other competitions. She has been teaching for Long & McQuade since 2004. Yuliya also teaches Music Theory.
