I love the MX-1 for creative use: you can send existing tracks through it and chop, mangle, stutter, filter and otherwise transform your sounds for remix purposes or alternate arrangement ideas. I'm using the digital inputs with DAW tracks, a TR-8, a VT-3, Aira Modular Demora FX and an old E-MU MP7 via the SPDIF input (surprisingly it seems to re-clock somehow?). The sound quality is good, (especially for live) although I wouldn't use it for the final studio mix. However to record your processed output you only have the master stereo mix available, not individual tracks. I mostly use it as a side-car to effect and process elements, not as my main mixer. Price could be lower, considering this is a bit of a closed off system for non-Roland Aira products. Bit of a missed opportunity in regards to I/O as the USB is not class compliant. VER.1.05 Update of the System Program has added more Roland product compatible with the MX-1 as well as DAW Control Surface mode. Perhaps OS updates or Version 2 of this product will improve features and functionality? Roland deserve points for creating a new product category: the creative mixer.
