I purchased a pair of Focal Alpha 65 monitors as they sounded great on the showroom floor, and they fit my budget. One of them now makes horrible crackling, squealing, and popping noises when it starts up, which then last for 20-30 minutes, and then it slowly subsides but it is still audible. This happens regardless if there is an input signal or not. The monitors are in near mint condition, and probably have less than 100 hours on them. They were installed on my studio desk and have never been overloaded or overheated. Focal offered to replace it under warranty, but this requires me to ship it 5,574 km from my home in Whitehorse, Yukon to Repentigny, Quebec. I'm extremely disappointed and would not recommend these to anyone.

While the primary use of this monitor for me is for listening and not recording/mixing, it will be based off of playback. Let me begin by saying, this is hands down the best sounding speaker I have used in my home including a comparison to my hifi setups and home theater which cost a lot more. I was looking to upgrade from my current krk rokit 8 used as computer speakers. While a great speaker, there is no comparison to the focal 6.5s. It felt as if a filter and wall was lifted comparing the krk to the focals. The bass is tight and extended, something the krk lacked entirely. The mid range is warm and defined, but where these speakers shine is the high end. The cymbals and treble is crisp and bright, but not harsh. It's odd going from an 8 inch to a 6.5 and getting louder, tighter, and all around more low end extension and sound quality. Stereo imaging is great, very wide. The echo and reverb come through very well. These speakers not only sound great close, but fill the room much better with a balanced sound. As for features, the 30 minute standby works great, and the positioning of the off/on switch is great for easy access. I have not used the EQ adjustments yet so I cannot comment on how these work. If you have been looking for a great pair of powered speakers for music play back, I can recommend these highly.
