MOTU MIDI Express 128
Departments > Keyboards > MIDI Controllers & Interfaces > MIDI Interfaces > MIDI Hardware Devices > MOTU > MIDI Express 128
Built from the same technology found in MOTU's flagship MIDI Timepiece, the MIDI Express 128 is a professional MIDI interface that provides plug-and-play connectivity to any USB-equipped Macintosh or Windows computer. The Express 128 provides 8 MIDI IN, 9 MIDI OUT, 128 MIDI channels and compatibility with all Macintosh and Windows software.
The MIDI Express 128 takes full advantage of USB, giving you high-speed MIDI throughput, sub-millisecond timing accuracy, support for "hot-swapping" and plug-and-play expansion. Need to connect another sound module or synth? No problem. Just add another MOTU USB MIDI interface via any available USB port. And the Express 128 is powered by USB no wall wart or AC plug.
No other MIDI interface offers this much value and performance at such an affordable price.

Only two cons: (1) Needs drivers so limited to Windows and Mac, but only so long as MOTU continues to provide drivers. (2) Unreliable MIDI connection unless a powered USB 2.0 hub in between computer and MIDI Express.
When I first hooked it up it worked for awhile but would have quit sending MIDI to my synths after returning to the computer after a few hours. After frantically searching for possible solutions I found a suggestion to attach it to a powered hub. This has worked with a old cheapo $9 hub and the interface is rock solid with five synths.
Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Logic Pro 9 and a variety of 1980s to 2000s midi gear.

I purchased 2 of these about 4 or 5 years ago and they have worked flawlessly all this time. I have absolutely no problems with them. I would purchase this again if I needed another.
