First of, before I get into this, let me qualify that I have had them all. Lead 2, 2X, 3 and the original Wave. I also had a Modular Rack and a Modular G2X. Yes, I am a Nord fan. In fairness, I have also had DSI synths, and Motifs. But I also recognize that while each of the above boards has something amazing about them, there is a reason I went through so many. I was looking for that perfect performance “top” keyboard, to go with my main keyboard. (My main keyboard evolved from Electro2 73, to Stage EX88, to Stage 3 88). That tier has been a revolving door, as I have searched for that right keyboard that would belong as much as my Stage 3 belongs. The sound capabilities on the Wave 2 are so vast. The Moog sounds it can make are beyond any Nord yet, and VERY authentic. (I have a Voyager and a Subsequent 37, so I have done an A/B). The expressive capabilities are beyond the Lead 3, the keyboard feels even more musical than the original Wave, and the sharp Prophet P5-like tones that are in the 2X are all possible (think Cars Let’s Go oscillator sync that so few keyboards are able to get just right. The control that you have over the different slots, and the amount of morphable features is stunning. And instant transpose on the front panel, or transposes can be saved in your presets. But what I love the most is how it fits seamlessly with my Stage 3. The waterfall keys on the Wave 2 allow me to play the organ in the Stage in dual keyboard mode, and it feels like an organ. And the waterfall keys (with aftertouch) FEEL better when playing synth. I couldn’t be happier. Fir the first time ever, I feel settled with my second tier board.
