My daughter just bought this short scale bass at the Orleans store, and of course Guitar Daddy was right along for the shopping, testing, and purchasing. I'm mostly a guitar player, but I do own one bass, an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV. My daughter was really getting into playing the bass, but mine is huge, heavy, and full scale at 34 in. This is by far the best short scale bass we could find around that price range. In fact, everyone at the store knew about it and seemed very fond of it. With reason! Very lightweight body with a nice upper body carve. Gorgeous colour like a 60's Cadillac. Fit and finish spot on. The only thing I could spot is a very slight line in the finish where the two pieces of the body were glued, but that is pretty common, especially on a uniform, glossy finish like that. All the hardware is good quality and well assembled. Knobs are metal, solid, and have a nice resistance when turned. The volume boost feature is actually pretty good and useful. The pickup offers a good variety of sounds with the rotary 3 way selector. The neck has a smooth satin finish on the back and is very comfortable for a guitar player, or smaller hands indeed. Tuning keys have exposed gear in the back and feel nice, with a vintage look. The bass was actually almost exactly in tune right out of the box, with proper neck relief, medium action, and well intonated.....nice! It sounds really good and has lots of thunder and clarity. If you're looking for a gigbag for one of these, we got a Rouge Valley RVB-E200 for guitar at the store, and it was just the right length for this bass. We absolutely recommend this short scale bass for anyone looking for an easier to play, lighter bass without any sacrifice to the sound and quality.

I’ve owned this bass for a month now and I’m very impressed with the quality of the build and the variety of tones I can get from it. The pickup is very versatile and can go from a nice, clean single coil tone to a very fat, full tone in series mode. And then for a bit more just push the volume knob for a boost. Push it again to turn off the boost. I’ve gone over every inch of this bass and I can’t find any flaws. The finish is perfectly applied. The neck is smooth; even the edges of the fretboard are rolled. The fretwork itself is perfect. No sharp edges. No buzzing frets. Action was perfect right out of the box. The bridge is very solid. And the tuners hold their tune. I put a set of D’Addario Pro Steel short scale strings on it and this thing growls now. If you’re in the market for a short scale bass you have to check one of these out. I’m glad I did.

This bass looks great and plays amazingly well. The sound is full. I thought getting used to a short scale would take time, but it didn't take much time at all. I am a hobbyist who has been playing for over 30 years. I have a number of basses, including an American Precision and a Jazz that I installed EMG pickups in. This one is more comfortable to play and sounds better. Oh -- and given that it is lightweight, it is easy on the shoulder. So glad I purchased it!

I never played or touched a Sterling before and ordered these because I dig short scales and just had to. ( yes I bought both colours) Happy to say these are fantastic! Nicely built, great tone and comfortable. If a short scale is on your list check it out.
