I am a fan of Doon whistles. I have owned a D key brass whistle for many years, and despite being very inexpensive, it's still one of my favourite whistles with a lovely clear tone. On the strength of that, I thought I would try their bamboo D. Now, this is a cheap whistle, of course, and you get what you pay for, but even so, I was extremely disappointed by the weak, reedy sound quality, especially on the higher notes.

Entry level bamboo whistle, more novelty than serious instrument0 of 0 customers found this review helpful

I own several tin whistles already and wanted to try a bamboo whistle without spending $200 or more. This is an entry level whistle, more novelty than anything else. It is not in tune (as evidenced by the holes evenly spaced with the same diameter holes) but has a nice breathy, woody tone. You can bring it more or less in tune by modifying some of the holes. It is an inexpensive lark to try a wooden/bamboo whistle, but won't be something you play often.
