Being a handmade djembe, every drum will be unique, so it helps to see it before buying. The djembe that I purchased did not have a fully carved bottom; instead, most of the bottom is sanded smooth with a 70mm wide band of carvings around the very bottom and a 25mm wide band of carvings just below the rope. If the primary reason for getting this particular drum is the fully carved bottom, I would recommend seeing the drum in a store first. I ordered mine during a nation-wide period of self-isolation, so that wasn't possible. Still, I was not disappointed because the drum sounds fantastic, has a very nice feel, and still has an excellent aesthetic. I would definitely recommend.
