Great banjo, very pleased with the quality, it's a very loud instrument that just loves to be played, if that makes any sense. Would definitely buy another one if something happened to it.

I'm just getting started on learning tenor banjo and bought this based on reviews. It seems to be very well made and it had a decent setup out of the box. It sounds great and I feel like I got excellent value for my money.

It's hard to beat Gold Tone when it comes to price/quality ratio. Their instruments are all very well built, and even their entry-level banjos like this one are outstanding. This one even has a maple body with a brass tone ring, something that most others makers only offer in their expensive models. This was the only banjo available from stock in the GTA, so it was the floor model. The setup was not great, the E string had been replaced with a guitar string, and the action was a bit high. Nothing too difficult to fix; I replaced the strings and adjusted the action. The other issue with these is the case: it's a short neck banjo (17 frets) and it needs a special bag or hard case from the supplier, which they didn't have in stock. No big deal, I can order one later on-line. Apart from that, it's a lovely little Irish banjo that sounds great and also looks very nice.
