So I bought a pair of these yellow fellows few months ago for my hobby studio. I have been enjoying these monitors. I upgraded from a pair of the classic Presonus Eris 5's (which I still have and recommend if you are on a budget) to pair with my 10" KRK sub. Great monitors! BUT, if you are pairing with a sub, I have discovered it's kind of pointless getting these compared to the 5" model due to fact that the sub will be taking care of your low end. Compared to the 5" model and the 8" model these are kind of in a weird middle ground. Okay, lets talk features. For some reason I thought the KRK app that is advertised on the KRK website would have special integration with these monitors in some way, that is not the case. You can get the app and use them with ANY monitors you have. The app itself is okay but I didn't do enough research and fell trap to a marketing gimmick that didn't exist. (insert facepalm emoji) Now the panel on the back can be a nice feature, if you want to do any tuning for gain or EQ it works. Did I end up tweaking anything? no. Here is why: If you pair this guy with the 10" KRK sub, the sub has built in crossover, (Which is SO NICE) so you wont have to worry about adjusting anything on your monitors for the most part. The one feature that my previous monitors didn't have that these do is automatic standby. I LOVE THIS FEATURE, I can leave the room and not worry that these monitors are going to be sucking up more power than necessary. idk how common a feature this is on other monitors but this was a definite upgrade for me. BOTTOME LINE: Are they good quality? YES (I took a gamble when I bought these and was not disappointed quality wise) Are they gimmicky? also y e s, but no the end of the world. Should you buy them? It really depends on what you want. So here is my advice from this recent spending decision. If you want to produce or listen to more bass heavy stuff please do yourself a favor, save your money, and get a pair of 5" KRK's paired with their 10" sub. I partly regret spending the extra cash when I didn't need to on these 7"-ers. If you want monitors with only slightly more bass over the 5" model and no sub for an extra couple hundred bucks but can't afford the 8" model, these are perfect for you. I can recommend these, but getting a sub to handle your low end is way better. If these ever do go on sale they will definitely be worth your cash. I hope this saved you some time.
