I got the Marshall SC20H head and the matching 2x12 cab. This combination nails the JCM 800 rock sounds I remember from the 80's but in a smaller package...very nice! This is my first real Marshall (tube amp) so coming over from Mesa amps it took me a little while to get it dialed in just right but once I figured it out it was amazing. I can get some really nice tones in the 5W mode (using a loop pot to keep volume manageable) but the 20W mode is killer. These amps are Loud, even the 5W mode is very loud if you turn it up. The 20W mode is definitely not for home use unless you live in a mansion or have access to a barn or attenuator. The SC20H sounds best when the master volume is 5+ and this is where the Magic really happens! If you have access to a good quality attenuator then you're all set. I would highly recommend putting an SD-1 pedal in front as a boost (level at max, drive at zero), especially if you have to play at lower volumes. For home use a reverb/delay in the loop at a moderate setting adds some sparkle. The stock tubes are good. The controls on the amp are very responsive. It takes pedals well. The V-type speakers in the cab complement the amp well. I play mostly classic punk and hardcore (Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Black Flag) and I find this amp has more than enough gain for anything I would play. For lower gain it also does classic rock really well. AC/DC tone was easy to dial in. I highly recommend this amp.
