Searched for three years. I finally found a bass that feels like it was built by someone who actually cared rather than just another factory output. (The only other one under serious consideration was a Sandberg California II from Thomann in Germany, but the price with the Euro made it prohibitive. Plus, I really wanted to shop in Canada and support L&McQ in the process). Yes, I know, it was built in a factory ;-) but the Yamaha BBP34 is GORGEOUS P-J style bass, beautifully finished, wonderful neck, with a solid and balanced tone. I will switch from the round-wounds to Thomastik flat-wounds soon, and it'll be perfect (closer to the tone of a Sean Hurley P, with a better neck profile for my hands.). I love the Japanese for the exquisite tiny details, like the holes already cut around the screws so when you pull the plastic sheet off of the pickguard nothing gets stuck under each screw, and the thank-you card from the person who built it. Fender may make a better bass case, but I doubt they make a significantly better P-J style bass guitar than this BBP34. I love it. Many thanks to Yamaha, L&McQ, and Purolator for getting it across the country to me in good time, safely, in perfect condition, during Covid! FIVE STARS!!!
