Emily McCorkle - coordinator of the music lessons in London North

Emily McCorkle

Emily is a graduate of the University of Windsor, where she completed both her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education and is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. Primarily a vocalist, she has also studied piano, clarinet, and the fundamentals of band instruments. Throughout her musical career she has taught privately, and has performed with various vocal and instrumental ensembles. Emily aims to create an inclusive community at the lesson centre that encourages an appreciation of all art forms.

Alex is a talented saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist with 20 years of playing experience. He is currently pursuing a music degree through Berklee College of Music. Alex is a thorough and patient teacher with 8 years experience teaching privately at local studios and with the Holy Spirit Marching Band. Alex emphasizes musicality, each lesson building on the previous ones, and of course, having fun. Alex is well-versed in many styles of music including, but not limited to, rock, funk, jazz, and classical. When not teaching, studying or recording, you can catch Alex gigging across Ontario with his band, Fun Fact. In addition, Alex is an official artist for Spector Basses. Amanda Barrett is a current Music Education Honours student at Western University where she is studying to become an instrumental school music teacher. She grew up surrounded by the brass banding scene in The Salvation Army, developing a passion for brass that has led her to learn trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium and tuba. She has been playing her main instrument, trumpet, for about eight years studying under various professional brass instructors. Amanda began privately teaching at the age of 17 and continues to teach other aspiring brass players. Lessons with Amanda follow along the individual goals and needs of each student. She is excited to work with new and experienced brass players! Her rate is $24 per half hour lesson.

Amanda Quick - Cello music lessons in London North

Amanda Quick (Cello)

Amanda Quick is an enthusiastic cellist and pianist hailing from Strathroy, Ontario. She has performed in numerous competitions, and has won the London Kiwanis Senior Cello Trophy, placed runner-up at the Provincial Competitions of Ontario (in both cello and piano), and received a scholarship toward her Bachelor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance degree at Western University. Amanda has been teaching privately for over seven years. She starts her students with the Suzuki Method, and gradually branches out to other genres as the student progresses. She is eager to bring her musical knowledge and experience to Long & McQuade! Her rate is $25.00/half-hour private lesson.

André McEvenue - Guitar music lessons in London North

André McEvenue (Guitar)

André McEvenue is an active young composer and guitarist in the Canadian music scene, and has collaborated with numerous artists, including the Toronto based, Vaso String Quartet (String Quartet 2018), Reverb Brass (Whorls 2017), and The Array Music Ensemble (Fantigue 2019). His work has received regular premieres at the Newfound Music festival in St. John’s, NL: (Moirai 2016, Shai’Hulud 2015, Structures in the Sand 2014), and he has also been featured as a young composer in the Tuckamore Music Festival (Somewhere Between Us 2017). In 2018, André completed his Master’s degree. His thesis composition, Capriccio for Mixed Ensemble and Piano was premiered in London, Ontario, under the direction of conductor, Simone Luti.

As a guitarist, André has performed in solo and chamber recitals in festivals and concerts across Canada. He has played in numerous ensembles, including the Cambrian College Guitar Quartet, the Memorial University Jazz Band, and the St. John’s funk band, Cabot Power. Most recently, André took part in the 2019 Orford Summer Academy in Quebec, and in September 2019 he commenced a PhD in composition at Western University in London, where he currently resides.

Bethany Harrison is a piano, theory and composition teacher who has taught privately, in studios, and at the National Music Camp of Canada. She also has experience volunteering in local classrooms and performing at weddings, dinner parties, funerals and fine dining restaurants. Graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor Degree in Honours Music Theory and Composition in April 2011, she has been teaching in London for the past 6 years and is open to students of all ages and experience levels. Calvin holds degrees with distinction in classical guitar performance and education from Lakehead University, with OCT qualifications. He has begun a strong performance career in concerts with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and Thunder Bay Symphony Chorus as well as the Elmer Isler Singers. In addition, he has premiered compositions by Canadian composers Darkened Chepil Reidsville, W. Ben Brown, and Timo Pehkonen. In 2017, he released his first book of original compositions for classical guitar. He also has over ten years experience in many genres of music including classical, rock, metal, blues, funk, folk, and bluegrass. Calvin's rate is $24.00/half-hour private lesson.

Charnelle is a graduate of the Honours Theory and Composition Program at Western University. She is a classically trained vocalist and is currently a chorister, composer, organist and pianist at her church here in London. Charnelle has a passion for musical theatre and has composed original scores for several productions, as well as short films. She was the Musical Director of Western Hillel's Cabaret, Vocal Director for King's Players Production of Little Shop of Horrors and apprenticed with the Musical Theatre on The Thames. Charnelle believes in the power of storytelling in music and encourages her students to find their own unique musical voice. She specializes in classical music, musical theatre and pop styles and her rate is $24.00/half-hour private lesson.

Chris has been playing violin and piano since 1983 and has been teaching privately since 1995. He holds Royal Conservatory Grade 10 diplomas for both violin and piano. Chris has played with several local orchestras, including Orchestra London and the University of Western Ontario Symphony Orchestra on violin and viola. He held the position of principal second violin with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra and is a member of various worship teams in the area. Chris enjoys recording for different artists, playing for local bands, and has had his violin playing featured on TV. His rate per half-hour private lesson is $25.00.

Christiana’s music education began in Toronto, Ont. where she received her ARCT in Piano Performance from The Royal Conservatory of Music. Growing up, Christiana competed and placed in various festivals in the GTA including: Kiwanis, Wishing Well Lions, Art Richmond Hill, and Markham Music Festival. Her strong passion for music led her to complete her B.Mus. in Piano Performance from Western University. In the past six years, Christiana has taught piano, music theory, and music history to prepare students for RCM examinations. Christiana is currently completing her M.Mus. in Literature and Performance under the instruction of Dr. Leslie Kinton at Western University. Christina Willatt is an award-winning singer and pianist who has performed in Canada, the United States and Italy. Christina graduated from the Master of Music Performance program at UWO in 2011. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Regina in Performance & Composition, as well as Grade 10 Voice and Grade 9 Piano diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Christina has extensive experience teaching and is the music director at the Church of St. Jude in London. Elizabeth Kinghorn - Voice, Piano music lessons in London North

Elizabeth Kinghorn is an experienced and passionate musician and music educator. She holds a B.Mus in music history/theory from the University of Toronto, an M.Mus in music education from the University of Western Ontario, and a teacher’s ARCT in voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music, a distinction for which she was awarded a nationwide gold medal. Prior to relocating to London, Elizabeth taught voice and piano for the Algoma Conservatory of Music and Algoma University in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Elizabeth is also a highly proficient pianist with extensive experience accompanying voice students and choral groups, serving as church organist, and playing in musical theatre pit ensembles. In addition, she has been extensively involved in community musical theatre as a performer, stage director, and musical director. Elizabeth is currently pursing a PhD in music education at Western, where she is involved in research examining the relationships between music, mental health, and well-being. Her rate is $25 per half-hour private lesson.

Gavino Oresta is a classically trained guitarist with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brock University with a concentration in music education. Gavino has been playing guitar for over 10 years and has been teaching for 5 years. Gavino is well educated in music theory and is currently applying for teachers college, hoping to go to Western University. Gavino also loves popular music especially rock and Classic rock. Some of his favourite bands consist of the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Foo Fighters and the Killers. Kelly Matthews began her music studies at the age of six. She studied violin, saxophone, and music theory at the Geoffrey James Lee School of Music in Timmins, Ontario. After high school, Kelly attended the University of Western Ontario where she received a Bachelor of Music degree. While in University, she studied violin with Gwen Thompson and Annette-Barbara Vogel. She also performed with the university orchestra and a variety of chamber music groups. After the completion of her music degree, Kelly completed a Master of Library and Information Sciences degree from the University of Western Ontario. She is now employed as the Registrar for Conservatory Canada, and her private lesson rate is $24.00/half-hour.

A previous faculty member at Jakarta Conservatory of Music, Leo is very passionate about working with students from different levels, backgrounds, and cultures. He emphasizes the importance of teaching the right technique and developing musicality from the very beginning. He has performed in Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines and has been featured on national television and a number of local radio stations. Leo has acted as music director of various singing groups, and has worked with conductors/vocal coaches such as Dr. Heidi Cerna, Prof. Simone Luti, Prof. Jennifer Moir, and Baritone Chad Louwerse. Besides operatic arias and choral music, Leo also enjoys singing Broadway musicals. Currently Leo is pursuing his Master's degree in Piano Performance at Western University, and assumes the role of lead tenor at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Melissa holds a Master's Degree in Music Performance and Literature from Western University, where she also obtained an Undergraduate Degree in Music Education. A talented clarinetist, flutist and saxophonist, as well as an arts manager, working in the non-profit art scene for the past four years, Melissa is also the co-founder and clarinetist of the contemporary chamber ensemble Koine Project. Rick started teaching guitar in the early '70s in local music centers, evening classes at Fanshawe College and lunch classes in local Separate Schools. He worked on the guitar curriculum committee for Yamaha Canada Music where he assisted in editing, testing and contributed original material to the Yamaha Guitar Method Series. He also was involved in writing articles for the national newsletter, adjudicating music festivals, working as a clinician at music camps and teacher seminars in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. Santiago is a professional musician with emphasis in music production and song-writing, and has been teaching guitar and bass for over 10 years. He graduated with honours from Fernando Sor Music School in Bogotá, Colombia, where he had the chance to study under internationally renowned teachers such as Frank Gambale, Mike Stern, Tom Coster, Richard Bona, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, Sergio Solano (Shakira), and Oscar Stagnaro, among many others. Nevertheless, Santiago considers himself to be in constant learning and gets as much from students as he provides. He likes exploring sound and is an avid collector of all kinds of music. When not teaching, he can be found working at Prevail Music Studio in London, where he currently exercises as manager and head producer.
