Ashley Meadows - Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone music lessons in Surrey

Ashley Meadows (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone)

Ashley's love for music began in her high school band room, where she experimented with many different instruments and musical styles. She is currently completing a BMus degree from KPU, where she studies flute under Paolo Bortolussi. She has played in many ensembles including marching bands, concert bands, jazz bands, and chamber ensembles. She believes in cultivating a love and passion for music in her students, and creating an engaging environment where students can learn their own way. Her rate is $24 per half hour.

Chris Sallis-Lyons - Drums music lessons in Surrey

Chris Sallis-Lyons (Drums)

Chris Sallis-Lyon is a drummer with over 15 years of experience in performance and session work, and has been teaching drums for nearly a decade. Chris has a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Music from VCC, and is working towards a full-time career in music. He connects with his students through his enthusiasm, patience, and passion for music, and adapts his approach to all ages and styles. His rate is $24 per half hour lesson.

Christine Hudson - PIano, Voice, Theory music lessons in Surrey

Christine Hudson (PIano, Voice, Theory)

Christine moved to Vancouver after her graduation from the University of Toronto (B. Mus), to continue her music education at Capilano University (Dipl. Jazz). During this time, she also spends her summers serving as the music director at the Anglican Parish of Tyendinaga and an assistant director at Music at Port Milford Chamber Music camp. She enjoys helping students realize their creative potentials while teaching piano, voice and theory. Her rate is $24 per half hour.

Dan Van Wyk - Violin music lessons in Surrey

Dan Van Wyk (Violin)

Dan has over 30 years of experience teaching violin and 16 years experience performing in orchestras in South Africa and Europe. He has a Bachelor's of Music degree with honours from his native South Africa. While his preference is classical music, Dan enjoys teaching various styles as well as music theory and history. He welcomes students of all ages and abilities. His rate is $25 per half hour lesson.

Dave has a BA. in Music from UBC and a Diploma in Performing Arts in Music from Douglas College. He is a multi-instrumentalist and composer and enjoys teaching both classical and popular music. His rate is $24 per half hour.

Emmett Wilson (Piano, Theory, Composition)

Emmett graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction, majoring in music. He specializes in teaching classical and contemporary piano as well as composition and theory. While Emmett enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels, he particularly enjoys helping advanced piano students to hone their skills. His rate is $24 per half hour.

Ian is a well respected guitarist in Vancouver and the founding member of the band “One and a Half”. The band has been successfully gigging in the lower mainland for over 20 years. Jesse Burch - Guitar, Ukulele, Bass, Banjo, music lessons in Surrey

Jesse Burch (Guitar, Ukulele, Bass, Banjo,)

Jesse Burch is a guitar player and singer-songwriter with country, bluegrass, and rock infusion. Performing over the last decade at festivals, competitions and local live music venues around the lower mainland and BC, he took home first place in the Red Robinson talent showcase showdown in 2008. Jesse then moved on to releasing his first single to country radio in 2010. Some of Jesse’s most recent accomplishments include BCCMA Horizon Award Winner 2017, CCMA Spotlight Provincial Winner 2017 and the Red Truck Concert Series winners 2018. Jesse has been teaching and mentoring young musicians for the last decade, building bands and promoting young talent. His rate is $24 per half hour.

John Booy - Piano, Theory, Composition music lessons in Surrey

John Booy (Piano, Theory, Composition)

John has a BMus in Composition from UBC, and a MMus in Scoring for TV, Video, Games, and Film from Berklee College of Music. He has been playing piano for over 21 years and has taught piano, composition and theory since 2014. When he's not teaching at Long & McQuade, John directs a choir, plays keyboard in an alternative band, and works as a film composer and orchestrator. Fluent in a variety of styles from jazz to classical, John enjoys the process of meeting people on their musical journey, and guiding them on their way to their goals. John's rate is $25 per half hour.

Justin Devries - drums music lessons in Surrey

Justin Devries (drums)

Justin is a drummer and composer who has studied and taught rock, jazz, funk and improvised/experimental drumming since 2008. He studied at the Vancouver Community College and is one of Vancouver's most active drummers. He has recorded and performed rock, jazz and Indonesian music locally and internationally, and his rate for a half hour lesson is $24.

Karen White - Piano, Voice music lessons in Surrey

Karen White (Piano, Voice)

Karen graduated in 2017 from Capilano University, where she completed a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Jazz Voice. Karen has been teaching piano and voice since 2015 in a wide variety of styles, and with a focus on fostering a safe and creative environment for students to explore their passion for music. Her rate is $24 per half hour.

Lance Chalmers - Guitar, Ukulele music lessons in Surrey

Lance Chalmers (Guitar, Ukulele)

Lance has been a professional musician since 1988. He has years of lessons and playing in the surrounding music scenes under his belt. Lance played for Trooper and Nick Gilder, as well as doing session work for a number of other artists and shares his experience and technical expertise with his students in a fun and energetic manner. His rate is $25 per half hour.

Lee Nichols - Guitar, Bass, Ukulele music lessons in Surrey

Lee Nichols (Guitar, Bass, Ukulele)

Lee trained at the Royal Conservatory. He has been teaching music since 2008, beginning at Music Centre Canada in Calgary, through to Long and McQuade Surrey where on top of teaching individual students, he taught a number of group "rock band" classes. After a long tenure at Surrey, Lee then taught a variety of instruments at Beaches Conservatory and allegro music in Toronto before deciding to move back to the West Coast. Also an accomplished performer, Lee has played with artists varying from country artist Patrick Masse, to the blues band The British Columbians, to pop artists Stef Lang, Shawn Hook, Tyler Shaw and others. He plays ukulele, lap steel, bass, and mandolin as well as guitar and his rate is $24 per half hour.

Myles started guitar lessons at the age of 8 and later went on to study at the VCC School of Music. Myles has been an important member of our team of instructors since 2008, and ear training is a major focus of his instructional approach. Myles’ rate is $25 per half hour.

Noelle Burch - Voice, Piano music lessons in Surrey

Noelle Burch (Voice, Piano)

Noelle’s music education started with classical piano training at the age of 4, and moved into improvisation and jazz technique as she grew older. She started her RCM vocal training at the age of 10. Making her way through the genres of folk, classical, jazz, musical theatre, and opera eventually led Noelle to enroll at the Canadian College of performing arts for professional training. Noelle has been teaching voice and piano for the last 5 years alongside working as a professional musician. She performs regularly with her band The Promised, and has had her original music played on multiple radio stations around the world. Her teaching style is very adaptive to whatever her students need to succeed. She can teach piano by ear as well as reading music. She also teaches multiple styles and methods of singing, specializing in helping classically trained singers and pianists transition their training into contemporary music. Her rate is $24 per half hour.

Ria Mukund - Voice, Piano music lessons in Surrey

Ria Mukund (Voice, Piano)

Ria Mukund, an Indian lyric soprano, has been active on the international stage since 2012. Born and raised in a culture of Indian classical music, she has studied under acclaimed mezzo-soprano Diana Tash, and has completed her MMUS in Vocal Performance at Claremont Graduate University, studying privately with Dr. Carol Lisek. Some of her favorite accredited roles include Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Emilia (Otello), and Catalina (Golondrina) with Vineyard Touring Opera, and The Maid (Amelia goes to the ball) with Independent Opera Company. Her rate is $25 per half hour.

Richard Brown - Drums music lessons in Surrey

Richard Brown (Drums)

Richard has over 20 years of experience playing live on-stage and in studio, with artists such as Wanting Qu, Big Sugar, Ernest Ranglin, Pee Wee Ellis, Dehli 2 Dublin, and Warren Dean Flandez, to name a few. He studied drums intensively with Jim Blackley, Paul Bowman, and Michael Lauren at The Drummers Collective NYC. He has a strong background in a variety of genres and drumming styles and has taught in group and private settings with students ranging from 4 years old up to adults. His goal is to have a good rapport with my students and to nurture their relationship to the instrument. Richard's rate is $24 per half hour.

Richard Gurney - Violin music lessons in Surrey

Richard studied violin and viola at the UVIC School of Music with Jaraslav Karlovsky, a former member of the Prague Quartet and Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He continued his training as a performer and teacher at the Victoria Conservatory of Music where he received his AVCM under the tutelage of Sydney Humphreys. Richard is now happy devoting his energy to teaching his students at Long & McQuade. His rate is $26 per half hour.

Rita has a Bachelor's in Music from the University of Victoria and has studied with pianist Bruch Vogt. She also has her teacher's certificate from the Victoria Conservatory of Music and a certificate in Early Childhood Education. Robin has been playing trumpet for 12 years, playing in classical and jazz ensembles. She is currently playing lead with Matt Grinke’s Happiest Big Band on Earth and entering her seventh year at Capilano University in the Jazz Studies program. At Cap she plays lead trumpet with the A and B bands, and has performed with artists such as Donny McCaslin, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Maria Schneider. She is fluent in English, Dutch, and French and her rate is $24 per half hour.

Roger Wecker - Cello, Violin, Viola music lessons in Surrey

Roger Wecker (Cello, Violin, Viola)

Roger Wecker has a music degree from Pepperdine University and was an itinerant band and strings teacher in North Vancouver until his retirement. He has conducted several choral and orchestral community groups including the White Rock Community Orchestra and the Greater Vancouver Operatic Society. Roger plays the viola and currently teaches violin, viola and cello. His rate is $24 per half hour.

Trent Otter - Drums music lessons in Surrey

Trent has recorded professionally at Mushroom Studio and The Beat Lab with producer Tom Macdonald (bassist of Hedley) and Dean Maher (sound engineer, instructor at Nimbus) and received a district scholarship for his excellence in drum set playing. He spent two years studying jazz at Capilano University, and during this time he performed with a Static in the Stars who was awarded top 3 in Fox Seeds and played CMW and Indie Fest in Toronto. He is well versed in rock, pop, country, punk, metal, latin, jazz, funk. Trent’s rate is $25 per half hour.

Yamil Chain-Haddad - Guitar, Ukulele, Bass music lessons in Surrey

Yamil has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz studies from Capilano University. He performs regularly with multiple bands across the lower mainland, and with 13 years of private instruction and 8 years of performance experience, Yamil is excited to share his knowledge of guitar and hopes to inspire a new love for the instrument.
