The detail on these is incredible, and they are accurate without being uninviting. I feel like I've never heard stereo like this before, they are that good. The detail compares to a much higher end system that I heard, a Genelec 7.1 system with 8" mains, 3" satellites, and sub so it's hard to compare the stereo image. It was a bit scary buying based on reviews, but there was so much in favour of them and not much against (except, perhaps, lack of sub-bass, but what 6.5 inch woofer has the deepest sub tones?). They are so incredibly revealing that some distortion on a previous production of mine became quite glaring. It was an intentional distortion, but these monitors made it sound a bit ugly. Not to say all saturation sounds bad with them, just this particular example was unpleasant, but my previous monitors (Neumann KH120) weren't revealing enough to display this characteristic. Even at $729.00 each, these are for sure the best deal on monitors that I know of - they punch against monitors two times the price (in terms of detail, phase, and stereo image they actually outperform most monitors even less than three times the price) Try the S8 if you don't want to use a sub, but remember even then you will be missing the deepest part of the bass guitar range, for example. I recommend S6 + sub crossed at 50hz.
