StudioLive: More Than a Mixer - a Complete System

You'll never go back to an old-school analog mixer once you've used StudioLive. With its incredible signal-processing power on every channel, easy store and recall of every setting, and the ability to record it all with just two mouse clicks, you'll get spoiled fast! Easier to use, better sounding, and flawlessly integrated with state-of-the-art software, it delivers the most creative environment possible for both live performance and studio music production.

Studiolive employs a simple design philosophy: One fader for every channel, one output for every bus. This is the power of a surface-driven workflow. But don't let the analog feel fool you: StudioLive mixers provide total recall and a unique soft-takeover feature that makes each fader active the moment its position has been recalled.

But StudioLive is not simply a mixer, it's a rapidly growing family of state-of-the-art, integrated hardware-software mixing and recording systems that deliver the features you need for live sound, live recording, and studio recording.

The StudioLive 16.4.2 is a great choice for those who want to mix smaller shows and worship services, and it's a great choice for small club systems, portable churches, small bands, corporate applications, educational institutions, and anywhere you want a rack-mount mixer. It's the perfect hardware core for a project studio. Or daisy-chain two StudioLive 16.4.2s to form a 32x4x2 performance and recording console for mid-sized shows and events.

Here, in one device, are high-headroom XMAX microphone preamplifiers, a built-in FireWire recording and playback interface, more than 90 signal processors, a big library of DSP effects, 6 aux buses, 4 subgroups, extensive LED metering, mixer save and recall, channel-strip save/recall/copy/paste, talkback, and more. Yet despite its many controls and features, it's compact, rack-mountable (14U), and easy to transport.

Build live mixes that glisten with clarity and detail - then record and enhance the performance with the power of StudioLive 16.4.2. Get creative in the studio. Build mixes, loops, sound effects, and more, then bring them out to your show and mix them with the live performance. Process channels using your favorite plug-ins and completely automate your entire performance.

StudioLive AI mixers provide more DSP processing power than any other mixer in their class. There are no limitations or compromises, no shared resources, no figuring out what processing is available where. You have all of the processing available at all times: a compressor, limiter, expander/gate, and fully parametric EQ on every channel and bus; four effects processors, each with their own dedicated mix bus; a 31-band graphic EQ on every aux mix plus the mains; and 500 ms of delay available to each of the four subgroups.

That's just the start. Control the StudioLive from your Mac, PC, or iPad. Manage monitor mixes from an iPhone or iPod touch. Tune your system to the room and fix feedback problems with integrated Smaart Measurement Technology.

Product ExperienceI own it

I currently have 3 old Mackie d8b, which recall every preset except the analogue gain setting (mic & Line). I use this for recording, not live mixing. In looking for a portable live mixing console I came across the Presonus StudioLive 16 & 24AI consoles. Liked what I read, so I bought 1 of each. Using the console in a "Test" setup, I found it very intuitive to use but, needed assistance with some features as the manual (an electronic downloaded version) was not getting me the answers i needed. Things where clarified, but there are some things that are not what are represented in the manual and on the website. It does not remember "everything" as it states. I did not expect it to "recall" the mic/line trim (which it doesn't), but I did expect it to recall all the global settings (which it doesn't). Things like latching solo's, as an example, always recall as latched even though I have saved them as "Radio" (not latching). This is one example of what I have discovered. There are more. It is not enough for me to take it back, but it is not as advertised either. After all, is not "everything", "everything"? All in all it works very well thus far. I would purchase another if I was looking for another, but I think two will do me for the time being. The L&M staff where great at helping me sort this all out, as there is a ton of mixers and features to choose from. Not just at my home store in Owen Sound, but also the staff in Burlington, Brampton, and Cambridge! They where all very helpful in helping me come to a decision. Cheers Bruce
