EMPRESS NEBU

Online

The Nebulus brings guitarists high quality chorus, flanger and vibrato effects in a really compact 4.5 by 3.5 inch pedal. To increase the tone range even further 3 variations on each effect are available for a total of 9 tweak-able modes. All this flexibility is easy to access via a preset system capable of storing up to 8 different presets. The chorus mode offers a lush and warm sounding chorus, a fluid and dreamy multi-chorus, and a unique tremolo'ed chorus. The flanger setting has a classic tape flange, a 70's negative feedback type flanger, and the elusive thru-zero flange. Lastly, but certainly not least, are the vibrato sub-modes which include a standard vibrato, a classic vibe sound, and a rotating speaker effect. Each mode includes a special switch which allows the guitarist to really tweak crucial settings and it also offers some bonus features like the ability to add compression to vibrato mode, for example. For further fine tuning, a tone switch is available offering warm, clean, and bright voicings to the effect.

This true bypass pedal offers the uncompromising sound quality that guitarists have learned to expect from Empress pedals in an incredibly small box. With chorus, flanger and vibrato all only one touch away, this pedal is an incredible value.

This is a cost effective way of getting a lot of modulation effects. It isn't a perfect master of any, but it does each effect very well, and it takes up a relatively tiny space compared to all the singular pedals this replaces. Fav effect sounds are the 60s and 70s flangers, the choruses, and the vibe. Vibrato is very usable, and the preset ability is where this pedal shines.

Upon receiving it the bypass switch would not remain on after the unit was powered off and on. I sent it back for repair for the reason mentioned above and it came back without that issue resolved. The repair guy said he went through it and checked everything and stated that all was good. Not so! I now find that preset locking system is M.I.A. on this Nebulus!!!!!!! I foolishly bought 5 of their pedals. I first purchased the Superdelay and was very impressed. Then I got 2 EQ pedals and a Tremolo. Tremolo had to go back for repair and 1 of the EQ pedals have stomp switch issues as well. So really only 2/5 pedals work as they should. I will never buy an Empress product again! To put things into perspective I have a Boss DS1 that I bought in 1978 and it is still in perfect working condition. What's the matter with Empress?

I'd recommend trying this out first or hearing it on YouTube. I enjoy all the effects and run it through my effects loop, but personal preference may vary. My favourite, and best suited to my playing, are the vibrato and the rotary effects. I've owned three rotary simulators and a real leslie, but I prefer the sounds I get from this one with the ability to mix with the dry signal and selections for the amount of horn. However, it's still nice to be able to want to use an effect and have it readily available and has become my Swiss army knife for modulation.
