FEATURES

A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement)
A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise controll of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years. In NX Series guitars, this treatment results in a sound close to that of a vintage guitar that has been played for years. It produces a sharper tone while simultaneously controlling dissonance in the high range.
Instruments that have undergone this process have received high marks from a great number of musicians. Their evaluations are nearly identical to those for guitars that have been played for years, and their comments often include terms such as "well settled", "mature", "warm", "excellent resonance", and "clear"

Flamed Maple
Also known as "curly maple", flamed maple is prized for its bright, stunning appearance. Hard and strong it is often used for necks on electric guitars. When used for backs and sides it produces a crisp, clear, less resonant tone that cut through well making it great for lead playing.

OK - almost 2 years later and this guitar continues to impress, as my skill level improves. What seemed to really bring an improvement was changing the strings to the D'Addario Carbon Hard version. These strings allow firm strumming without breaking down. The guitar can now really project the sound and the tonality holds up as you push these strings. More expensive than regular strings, but well worth it as they also last much longer. Back to the guitar. If you love playing nylon stringed guitars - seriously look at this model or the NTX if you want a 14 fret model.

Just to update my previous review regarding this guitar. It continues to open, and impress over the last 6 months. Changing all strings over to Hard to allow drop D tuning to improve sound and control of the bass strings, The maple woods bring a tonality and brightness to the lowed D string, whereas previous guitar woods made it sound like it was in a deep well. Really happy with this guitar and glad then I went out on a limb to try something different. I have a new friend.

The Engelmann top for starters is a nice tight grain and offers a sweet balanced tonality to warm the sound from the maple back and sides. Very responsive to the attack, faster than the GC192s classical which I used previous to this guitar. The flamed maple back is simply gorgeous and brightens the sound compared to the typical Rosewood. The trebles stay bright and consistent all the way up the fretboard. Bass is solid but without that deep boom typical of the rosewood. Put on a capo at the 7th fret and it holds up - no flat spots - she just sings up there. Play Flamenco, classical, or fingerstyle. I'm using it to sing songs where I would typically use the steel string acoustic. This guitar is that good, thanks to the selected woods. Plugged in with a good amp will give you a sound very close to the unplugged, plus you can dial in the sound to suit with the electronic controls. Nice chromatic tuner. I've been using this guitar for 3 months now and it has become my main guitar. Highly recommended if you are looking for something different. It is that good. I believe it is strung with hard tension trebles and normal bass strings, and it seems to work for me. Projects well, good sustain, nice neck, sweet sound, love it.
