I got this flute as a few months ago and it plays beautifully. The only thing is that it was not as I expected it to be. The flute is more of a really dark shiny grey colour, though it is still beautiful. The polish wears off really fast. I have huge spots that are not tarnish but just spots where the polish wears off. I got two thumb tests not only to better my playing but to keep it from getting worse. This flute would have gotten five stars for me except for those minor bits with the appearance.

I've played flute for over 5 years and I got this flute a few months ago as my first intermediate flute. I originally wanted the AF700 but could not afford it so I settled for this. I play it everyday and perform in both professional and amateur settings regularly and I cannot say enough good things about this flute. It offers sensitivity to the players breath and fingering making dynamics and octave changes easy. The tone is clear. Intonation could be better but is nevertheless impressive considering the value. The picture of the black nickel flute is misleading as it is not nearly that dark black. However, it still looks beautiful and unique and I get compliments on it all the time. Like any new instrument, it took a few days to get used to and to start sounding nice. I was a little sceptical about the body having been assembled in China, but Gemeinhardt seems to have done a good job with their non-hand-made flutes and unless you're buying a handmade flute, you can't expect anything other than factory made. For the price, this flute is definitely a steal and I think my money was well spent. I would recommend it to any flute players looking to get a cheap, intermediate level flute.
