Compared to steel, the softness of the 1.2mm brass shell eliminates metallic harshness and delivers a smooth sound that still cuts well when played aggressively. The traditional 45 degree bearing edge allows the head to fully resonate all the way to its edges, producing great sensitivity for softer dynamics and ghost notes. The moderate 14" x 5.5" size provides great versatility that lends itself to a wide range of musical applications.

Features:

Size: 14" x 5.5"
Material: 1.2mm Brass
Edge: Traditional 45 degrees
Sound: Warm, Open, & Balanced

Let me start by saying I’m 80 and still work out daily and play weekly or more before Covid 19. IC had a few snares over the years mainly from kits I owned. I downsized my kit 5 years ago To a Sonor Safari and have been happy with the sound Even if the 4 X 14 snare after going to a Puresound 30 wire snare and Fiberskyn head. Ok for Jazz. For Classic Rock and Country I switch to my 1969 10 lug heavy chrome Pearl/ Coronet that I’ve updated with new throwoff, 30 wire snare and G12 batter. So both are good but I decided to treat myself and buy a new unit. After exhaustive YouTube search I decided on a Brass Cat. Arrived last week and I’m blown away. The warm sound and the fact it can play sensitive or loud and the fact that the rebound is there whether tuned low, medium or high. The double snare control with micrometer click adjustments means snare sounds are infinite. The heads are stock Ambassador so I’m sure that the 1.2mm shell and sharp 45 degree bearing edges mean the head only has minimal contact and is virtually floating which makes it the easiest snare I’ve ever played. Press rolls are ultra easy and unlike many drums where playing them in the centre requires more wrist action, the Cat is virtually the same at the edge as at the centre. My Arthritic wrists and fingers are in heaven...and this is one of the most beautiful looking metal drums anywhere and the hardware is top notch.. smooth lugs. I’m over the moon. Eighty Guy

I have 4 Mapex snares. 3 from the Black Panther series. I use the Brass Cat as my main and switch out with Black Widow. Love this snare and find it warm and sensitive and yet loud when you need to cut though. great quality and features
