A New Twist on a Groundbreaking Classic
Epiphone is proud to introduce what will surely become a players classic, the new five-string Toby Deluxe-V. The original "Toby" brought real innovation to modern bass players who were hungry for an instrument that could accommodate new styles and sounds. And now, Epiphone and Tobias team up again to put the Toby bass back on the cutting edge where it belongs with the Toby Deluxe-V.

The Toby Story
The original Toby Bass was designed by Michael Tobias and featured the classic ergonomic body shape that bassists find so easy to play. Toby basses have a focused, "finished" sound that combines the punch of an upright bass with all the clear detail of an electric. And now for even greater sonic variety, the Toby Deluxe-V adds a 5th string tuned to low B. The combination of a low B and the Toby Deluxes Active Tonexpressor Bass Enhancement Control gives bassists the chance to break through into new dimensions on stage and in the studio at a price that any player can afford.

I have just received this bass and I'm quite disapointed with how bad the quality is. I'm well aware it's 500$ bass, which is what I was looking for. But, the issues with this one are basic quality. 1- One of the tuning peg is not working well, like it's stuck in rust, or something like that. It rotates horribly. 2- One pick up was not working at first. Changed the battery and it resurrected, which doesn't make any sense 3- Each control knob makes a serious static noise when turned, like all of them need a serious contact cleanup, or maybe even to be replaced. Otherwise... the bass sounds nice and plays well, but all of this is pretty basic. I was kinda skeptical, cause I read bad reviews on Sweet Water about the quality of this, but decided to give it a shot anyway. I regret buying it, and I'm therefore returning it, even if I wasted money changing the strings.

This was the first bass I ever owned (aside from a hand-me-down from my dad). I wanted to get a 5-string, to have more range and not have to tune down to drop D to play some material. Was on the fence between this model and an Ibanez, but went with this one since it was cheaper. The action is low, which makes playing it super easy. It also has a solid tone, and stays in tune pretty well. With the 5 strings and 24 frets, it has a lot of range too, from a B0 to a G4 in standard tuning. The only real complaint I can think of is the battery, which you have to undo the back panel to get to. Plus, the battery is held in place by a sticky pad, which can come loose. It's real annoying to get to for fixing/replacing a dead battery, especially since the back panel quite hard to get out. All in all though, I've had one of these for about two years, and played some small venues with it. For those looking to start practicing 5-string, this is a great beginner model to go with.

Tanner at Long and Mcquade handed me this bass to test out a couple of amos and i could not believe how easy it played and how good it sounded, so bright. Powerful lows... I had to buy it. I dont care if its entry level priced! ??
