APEX325

Online

The Apex325 is ideally suited to handling the high SPL and extended low frequencies that most bass drums can produce. The diaphragm is housed in a solid zinc die cast body for maximum protection. The tight hyper-cardioid pattern also provides improved isolation from other instruments on the stage or bleed from other instruments in and around the kit.

Extended low frequency response and a smooth response curve ensure a natural, punchy and clean signal from the bass drum and can easily handle 165dB SPL at the input.

Features

• Solid Rugged Zinc Cast Body
• Handles Extremely High SPL without Distortion or Capsule Overload
• Ideal Tuned Response for Kick Drums
• Hypercardioid Polar Pattern for Maximum Off-axis Rejection
• Gold Plated Pins on XLR Connectors for Improved Signal Transfer

great value. the biggest thing I found with this mic is - you have to move it around the kik head to find the sweet spot. I placed it in the 'regular' position and found it a bit lacking until I moved it 30° off the soundhole and eureka! A very usable mic for a great price if you spend a bit of tweeking time IMO.

A decent kick mic for the price. I bought this as a cheap replacement as the used drum mic set had a dead kick mic. It works okay for a live setup and moderate studio work. I do like it better than the cheap CAD kick mic you get in their least expensive set which has no high end at all. Best results so far have been placing the first ?ring? level with kick port, leaving the head inside but the vents outside. The Apex kick mic picks up good high end in the kick so you can hear the attack. Noticed it more when using it on a cajon. It did well with the lows and picked up the buzz and attack from snares and batter head. I?ve had to use two mic?s before to get a full sound. I also used it to record bass guitar as a bass cabinet mic and was pleasant surprised with its response and used it with a direct out to blend a good bass tone. It does well for what you pay for. It?s not an Audix A6. But will work in a pinch.

The Apex 325 is a great sounding kick drum mic at a very affordable price. If you plan on close micing the bass drum it will come out sounding way too boxy. I realized this mic works best moved back about 12 inches from the reso head to get that desired punch. I could not ask for better quality and I am blown away by how awesome my bass drum is sounding in tracks now. For 130 you really can't go wrong with this mic.
