I have rented this from Long & McQuade for about 3 months now. This thing is NOT just a drum machine. This is a sample player with 6 tracks but also per step sample loading capabilities. This means you can have more than just 6 samples playing per pattern, but basically have as many samples as you have steps in your pattern. It has a very robust sequencer with note nudge capability and trigger conditioning. There is an immense number of possibilities that can be achieved using this groove box. There is parameter locking per step and an LFO, Reverb, Delay, Cutoff, Resonance and other goodies. I have had this run a bass line on my Minilogue while the other 5 tracks were used for drums. There are many videos out there about this little machine ( I recommend the one by Cuckoo), but one of the more interesting ones is about granular synthesis, since this unit can loop samples or simple wave forms. This means you can use it as a sampling synthesizer! This is NOT a sampler. You cannot sample directly into it, but you can upload your own samples using MIDI Sysex. The only thing that is not great, are the 6 large pads used to trigger the individual tracks. They are velocity and pressure sensitive, but you do have to hit them much harder than pads from other manufacturers to get full velocity. Getting this unit for the sequencer alone is worth the money!

Returned this after owning for 3 days. the device was literally falling apart. rubber feet on the bottom fell off. buttons already felt worn. Fun to play with, but 6 tracks really isnt enough to make full tracks. alittle limited in features. better off spending abit more and getting its older brother the digitak.

This is surely the cheapest and best stand-alone fully functional sampler/groovebox out right now. If you are interested in a drum machine but want a full Gig of custom samples to play with--this is your machine. There are other comparable machines but not with any great sampling abilities. It's light and plastic unlike the solid higher-end Elektron stuff, but it feels good. They put a lot of thought into designing this entry level machine--and bonus--made in Sweden (like all Elektron gear)! I also own the Digitakt and they are quite similar. The MS is a fair bit simpler/stripped down with less editing functions.
