Optimized, modernized, yet so familiar, the new StingRay bass is tailor-made for today's most discerning players.

First introduced in 1976, the StingRay has been revered as one of the most iconic bass guitars in history. The StingRay was the first production four string bass to feature onboard active equalization. The flagship of the Music Man line, today's StingRay is the same as it was some forty years ago, featuring a solid roadworthy construction, elegant oval pickguard, 3+1 tuning key configuration, and the ever popular Music Man humbucker - all of which combined produce a look, feel and sound that is remarkably unmistakable.

• 5-Bolt Sculpted Neck Joint: The sculpted neck joint provides uninhibited access to all 22 stainless steel frets atop roasted maple necks.
• Refined Body Contours: Enhanced body contours are rounded for more comfort in any playing position while retaining that revered, iconic StingRay sound.
• Powerful Neodymium Pickups: The new and improved StingRay electronics feature powerful neodymium magnets, bringing you more output and a wider range of sounds
• New 18-Volt Preamp: A newly designed 18-volt 3-Band preamp for extra clean headroom lets you dial in everything from modern punch to classic, vintage tones.
• Lightweight Performance: Weighing in at an average of only eight and a half pounds, the StingRay is lighter than ever but still packs its signature punch.

I saw this bass on the wall at Long & McQuade and fell in love. I brought it home this week and I am absolutely gob smacked by it. It is a fraction of the weight of my G&L M2k. It is so well balanced that whereever I position it it stays. It is beautiful with the ebony fretboard and birdseye maple roasted neck, and the tone! Oh man, I've been chasing this tone all my bass playing life-changing so 32 years. Why did I wate so long? I have had p basses, I have a jazz, a G&L L2000 and an M2000 and as good as they are, they can't touch the tonal diversity of this bass- and all pick-up positions are useable. Such an easy bass to play too- hammer ons, vibrato- every nuance of my finger style is accentuated and sonically delivered through the amp. Even the way it is balanced in the case is awesome- carrying it from the handle with no strain on the wrist as the case doesn't dive like a seesaw on the body side. These are small details but that is what you can expect from Ernie Ball. Thank you for making this bass such an incredibly well thought out tool and thank you for how beautiful it is.
