FZ-5: Fuzz

A Distorted Blast from the Past

The FZ-5 is a modern pedal built for the modern guitarist, but the sounds you can get from the FZ-5 are pure retro. Looking back at the glorious rock sounds of the 60s and 70s, the FZ-5 recreates its vintage fuzz through BOSS state-of-the-art COSM technology. Recall the fuzz-filled flavors of classic pedals, such as the Maestro FZ-1A, Fuzz Face and Octavia pedals, and kick em into overdrive with the FZ-5s Boost knob. BOSS proprietary COSM technology allows guitar players to recreate classic fuzz BOOST control for more aggressive tone. The FZ-5 is the perfect weapon for players wanting to beef up their rigs with classic retro fuzz artillery.

Vintage sounds inspired by famous fuzz pedals of the 60s and 70s

I find the pedal does not react to other pedals and amps in the way a fuzz should. It is also in desperate need of a tone control to make it usable

This was my first guitar pedal and ive had some fun playing around with it, i usually use it with a distortion setting on my amp to get a really dirty sound. The 'M' setting is my favorite next to the octave setting. Good for the price

I'm usually not to big on boss pedals and didn't end up picking this one in the end but may reconsider as I am still looking for a fuzz. This Fuzz can give you the sound of 3 Fuzzes, A fuzz face (with a little less tone), an Octavia, and the M mode mimics the Maestro fuzz (My favorite setting so far). The thing that's keeping me away is the usual cheap building of boss pedals, Mainly the Knobs and switches, however the knobs on this one seem quite durable compared to their other pedals. You get a good sweep of fuzz control and boost and the level output is good as well. the one thing it lacks tho is a tone control, that extra bit of control would have sold me on this and I would have just got the switch upgraded to a metal one. I believe the price is a bit to high on this tho, seems more like a $80-$90 pedal. If it were to go on sale I would pick it up, But I'm looking more at the WH Swollen Pickle but haven't decided yet. I'm not saying its bad, but I'm also not saying it's the greatest.
